The Arc of PA is a grassroots organization comprised of
over 40 local chapters located throughout the state of Pennsylvania and representing over 14,000
members.
The Arc of the US advocates for the rights and full
participation of all children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Together with our network of members and affiliated chapters, we improve systems of supports and
services; connect families; inspire communities and influence public policy.
Pennsylvania Protection & Advocacy (PPA) has joined with the Disabilities Law Project and is now Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania. MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania is to advance, protect, and advocate for the human, civil, and legal rights of Pennsylvanians with disabilities.
The
Education Law Center (ELC), is a
non-profit legal advocacy and educational organization, dedicated to ensuring that all of
Pennsylvania's children have access to a quality public education.
The Juvenile Law Center (JLC) trains lawyers, judges and professionals who work with children, and educates the public by distributing a wide range of publications, participating in conferences, and testifying at public forums.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is
a law ensuring services to children with disabilities throughout the nation. IDEA governs
how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education and related
services to more than 6.5 million eligible infants, toddlers, children and youth with
disabilities.
Diversity World offers a comprehensive directory of websites (US and Canada) for enhancing the effective participation of people with employment barriers in the workplace; Online discussion groups ("e-Affinity groups") for communication on topics of workforce diversity; Free Newsletters on Diversity/Career topics. They also host seminars and workshops throughout the US and Canada. Parents, educators, advocates, and attorneys go to Wrightslaw for accurate, reliable information about special education law, education law, and advocacy for children with disabilities. Wrightslaw has thousands of articles, cases, and free resources about dozens of topics. The Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN) is an initiative of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education. PaTTAN supports the Department of Education's efforts to lead and serve the educational community by offering professional development that builds the capacity of local educational agencies to meet students' needs. PaTTAN's primary focus is special education. However, services are also provided to support Early Intervention, student assessment, tutoring and other partnership efforts, all designed to help students succeed. This guide is a comprehensive analysis of hiring employees with disabilities that includes information about how to find qualified workers with disabilities, how to put disability and employment research into practice and how to model what other businesses have done to successfully integrate individuals with disabilities into the workforce.
